Preschool homeschooling is one of my favorite seasons—full of discovery, creativity, and so many “aha!” moments. This year, we put together our custom preschool homeschool curriculum tailored to our child's interests and learning pace. It's been a fun process, and I'm excited to share the resources we used and how they've worked for us!
Why We Built Our Own Preschool Homeschool Curriculum
When planning for the year, I couldn't find a pre-built curriculum that checked all the boxes for us. We wanted something flexible and engaging, focusing on early literacy, numeracy, and room for play and exploration. After much research and brainstorming, we decided the best option was to create our own blend of resources and activities.
This custom curriculum allowed us to focus on what works best for our preschooler and adapt as needed. And the best part? It still feels approachable and not overwhelming for me as the teacher!
Key Resources for Preschool Homeschool Curriculum
1. Alphabet Worksheet Bundle

One of the cornerstones of our preschool homeschool curriculum is this alphabet worksheet bundle! I originally created it for my middle child and went through and revamped and added to it for my youngest. It includes tracing, letter recognition, and fun activities for each letter of the alphabet.
Every week, we focus on one or two letters. We start with fun alphabet books and then jump into the worksheets to practice both uppercase and lowercase letters. (We also practice sounds, but don't stress over this as much)
Our complete alphabet worksheet bundle is the perfect resource for young learners, offering all 26 alphabet letters with 25 engaging worksheets for each letter. It includes a pre-test to assess initial understanding, followed by interactive, hands-on activities like tracing, writing, and object matching to help reinforce letter recognition and retention. After completing the set, a post-test review allows students to revisit and solidify their knowledge while showcasing their progress. Ideal for toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners, this versatile and printable resource fits various age groups and settings. Teachers and parents will love its time-saving, user-friendly design, which makes lesson planning a breeze. Whether at home or in the classroom, this bundle provides everything you need to make learning the alphabet fun and effective!
Take learning beyond the worksheet by encouraging kids to spot the day's letter in their surroundings! Whether it's a cereal box at breakfast, a sign during errands, or even in their favorite storybook, identifying the letter in real-life contexts helps reinforce recognition. Pair this with practicing the letter's sound whenever they find it—turn it into a game or a fun challenge to keep them engaged. This simple activity transforms everyday moments into interactive learning opportunities, building confidence and deepening their connection to the alphabet!
2. Number Worksheet Bundle

Our go-to math resource is a number worksheet resource that I created for my middle child and revamped and expanded for my younger child. The worksheets help us practice foundational counting and number recognition skills. They're packed with activities like tracing numbers, matching quantities to numerals, and simple “count and color” sheets.
We do one or two pages at a time, keeping the sessions short and interactive. We also incorporate hands-on activities to reinforce what we practice on the worksheets. For example, if the day's worksheet focuses on the number 5, we might build towers with five blocks, count five raisins at snack time, or find five leaves during a walk.
This bundle has been such a confidence booster for our preschooler. It makes numbers less abstract and more relatable. Plus, it's an excellent tool for reviewing and mastering concepts as we go.
3. Hands-On & Creative Activities

While the worksheet bundles are the foundation, we filled out the curriculum with lots of playful, hands-on learning. Some of our weekly activities include:
- Sensory Play: This includes tools like playdough, sensory bins, and kinetic sand, often tied to our letter or number theme of the week. For instance, we might create a playdough “snake” shaped like the letter S!
- Storytime: Every day, we read books related to our themes. For example, during “P” week, we read books like “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” and explored all kinds of “P” words!
- Art & Craft Projects: Crafting is a fun way to tie everything together. We've made handprint letter art, created number collages, and even made paper plate clocks for practicing counting.
4. Nature & Exploration

We also prioritize time outdoors, incorporating nature study and movement into our lessons. A lot of math and science happens naturally during these times. For example, counting rocks, sorting leaves by size, or observing bugs fit right in with our themes and units. Check out this FREE Spring Scavenger Hunt!
5. Practical Life Skills

Part of our curriculum also involves life skills. We use routines like baking together (which sneaks in math) and organizing toys (matching and sorting) as opportunities for learning. It's wonderful to see our preschoolers gaining independence while building practical skills.
Why This Approach Works for Us
What I love most about this custom curriculum is its flexibility and simplicity. Preschoolers are naturally curious and eager to learn through play, and this mix of resources caters to those instincts. The alphabet worksheet and number worksheet bundles provide structure and focus, while the hands-on activities and nature study keep the learning process fun and engaging.
Another benefit? This setup has been incredibly budget-friendly. Instead of investing in an expensive boxed curriculum, we could create something practical. We customized at a fraction of the price, using free or low-cost resources and materials we already had.
The KEY for the Best Preschool Homeschool Curriculum?
One of the joys of homeschooling is its evolution. If our preschooler suddenly showed an interest in dinosaurs or space, we happily adjusted and incorporated those topics into the mix. That's the beauty of creating your own curriculum—it's as flexible as your family's needs!
Final Thoughts
Homeschooling doesn't have to be complicated or expensive to be meaningful. By blending an alphabet worksheet bundle, a number worksheet bundle, and hands-on activities, we've created a preschool homeschool curriculum that feels approachable and fun for everyone in our home.
If you're considering designing your own curriculum, start small and think about what lights your child up. With creativity, you can build something as unique as they are!
